Idle GPU temps randomly gone up by 10-15 degrees

I've got a powercolor R9 290 graphics cards and every since I bought it (about 3 months ago) the idle temps have been hovering around 45-50.

However, in the last couple of days it has randomly increased to 60 and I have no idea why. As far as I know I haven't changed any settings. The temp under load remains the same.

Anyone got any ideas why this happened?

don't know what your room temp is or you case air flow but I feel that's too high at idle but you did not show what the temps were for at full load

so lets say it is after running full load for 10 min. it get only 65-70c at the most then I would not worry

also if you use gpu-z try a older one like 7.6 it may be better for your card some gpu-z don't work too well as I found with my powercolor card why I don't know but 7.6 is working well for it

also run its log to record the readings from gpu-z and see if something like the fan may be unstable in some way like its running 40% and then dropping to 20% wile under full load or what ever that may show a faulty fan controller [??]

Room temp is around 23 degrees right now. Air flow is fine; as I said the previous temps were at 45 which is fine for a r9 290. At load, the temperature goes up to around 70-75 with only 60% fan speed, so I definitely don't think air flow/cooling is the problem here. Also, i'm using msi afterburner not gpu-z.

EDIT: Just ran some quick tests. With 0% GPU usage i'm getting 64 degrees at 44% fan speed. I then booted up a couple of differeent games and on the Witcher 2 max graphics i was getting 90-100% GPU usage, 71 degrees at 55% fan speed. Just seems really odd to me that the idle temp is so high and the load temp is good. And as I said these idle temps only started 2 days ago, the 3 months prior to that i was getting 45 idle temp

I have not run that card but if you did not jack around with it and its still stock out of the box 70-75c under full load may be fine

my powercolor 7850 goes 65c @33% fan looping heaven 4 or 5 times

now if you got this card I don't like the looks of the reviews on that bios flashing thing on them that's just silly

no one seems happy with this one

don't know -- your top hottest temp reading looks to be in the norm for a card of its class idle my not be a issue as would a overheating card at load

as long as it don't show over heating at full load it should be fine

as far as that bios thing it could have a fix on the idle issue in it with a fan controller fix or something but seeing your temps at the hottest it looks fine there and would call it good and run it as that
