I have windows 8.1 machine. The problem started with a secondary drive disappearing. Then I started getting DPC_WATCDOG_VIOLATION and the machine would restart but then I'd get a DISK BOOT FAILURE. I'd let the machine sit for a while then restart then it'll boot fine. I ran chkdsk and the tools for detecting HD problems available in windows 8 and no errors detected. Please HELP me point to the culprit!!! Could it be the power supply? Hard dirve?

There's quite a few results when googling but none points to a singular answer. I'm suspecting some sort of a hardware problem since the machine has been trouble free since I built it. There are no tell tale hardware error in the log file except for the "surprise disk something..." when the second drive can't be seen by the OS. Also that it boots fine after sitting for a while after the dpc then mising boot disk occurence.

the drive disappears ok what involved in that ?? chipset drivers -- sata controller - hard drive firmware --mechanical defective of hard drive .. just to start

those hard drive tools can show a drive all good when it may not be I got 2 failed drives here that will pass the wd data lifeguard test right up to the day they just 100% stopped working

''There are no tell tale hardware error in the log file except for the "surprise disk something..."
so what does it do ? jump out from around the corner and kick on the lights and yell ''surprise'' I'm here??

there could of been a update of some kind or a driver change between the time it worked fine and when it started to fail and caused this
