My son is looking to build a gaming computer that is used mostly for minecraft and steam games but also records game play for his youtube channel. Tower only with an OS. I am hoping to keep the budget at about $600us. I am hoping to get the list to family for Christmas shopping so any help would be great. Thanks in advance!

$600 isn't much if you also need an OS. Best I could come up with:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor ($106.02 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($29.98 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($59.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: Patriot Viper 3 Low Profile Blue 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($72.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($53.98 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: XFX Radeon R7 260X 2GB Core Edition Video Card ($109.99 @ Newegg)
Case: NZXT Source 210 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($34.98 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($29.99 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($15.00 @ Newegg)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($87.98 @ OutletPC)

This would be worth the extra $20 in my opinion:

I added a Wireless card, changed the graphics card to an overclocked R9 280 which is much more powerful and changed the case to accomodate the new graphics card. The new card is a little too long for the old case, it fits but it'll block some drive bays. No such problems with this case.
