Hi guys. First of all, I want to say that I know this has been asked thousands of times, but none of the other threads have solutions that work for me. In games like Minecraft and team fortress 2, I get low FPS. I am using a 750 Ti and an FX 6300 overclocked to 4.3GHz, rock solid. Here is my pc build:

http://pcpartpicker.com/b/d8r7YJ

I have tried these things:

*Choosing "Prefer maximum performance" in Nvidia settings.
*Disabling and Enabling TurboCore in BIOS
    *Allocating more RAM
*Running a stress test before playing
*Overclocking GPU (I'm too scared to tweak voltage settings right now, maybe someone can guide me through that here)

In Minecraft, I only get 15% GPU usage MAX. Even at 15% I still only get ~50 FPS. Lowering settings a lot increases fps a lot, but that's not really a fix. Also, overclocking the GPU in msi afterburner only increases performance in all games and benchmarks by a few FPS. This is where it gets weird:

In Heaven 4, Gpu usage stays around 80%, and I get like 85 fps. (This is the basic preset) Same thing in FurMark. Since both of these benchmarks are way more intensive than minecraft, I would think I would get far greater FPS in minecraft.

Tl;dr: Minecraft gets horrible FPS and uses little GPU. FurMark and Heaven 4 use almost full GPU usage and get great FPS. None of the solutions on other threads with similar issues fix this.

Has anyone had a similar issue in which RMAing solved the problem? What should I do?

can U upload image including HWMonitor & GPU-Z and CPU-Z after 15min gaming or CPU+GPU stressing by AIDA64

Running tests now. Is it OK if I use FurMark instead of Aida64? I get serious freezing when GPU stress testing in Aida.

hmmmm , OK but keep watching the GPU temp and make sure not going up to 85c and use Prime95 instead of AIDA64

I ran FurMark for a bit and this is the result:

Max temp was 60C, usage was ~100%, fps were around 30. Bottom left is temp, MSI afterburner window show GPU usage.

sorry for late respond dude ..
OK, the GPU and CPU are fine and u don't have to OC your CPU to get the card full power but it's OK .
what Driver R U Using now ?
have U installed latest driver ?
if yes, install older driver and try again but do not try beta version stay with WHQL and keep me up with results.

and try a large game like Battlefield 3,4 or Crysis 3 with Fraps to show how much frames and tell me

I tried rolling back the drivers. I rolled back to the previous recommended version and the previous beta version. Neither improve anything. I don't have battlefield or crysis 3. Is there a free game like that I can test with?

you can try to install it by torrent from reloaded and buy it if you like it later just for PC testing

I don't see how playing those games will help solve my problem. Do you have any ideas on how to improve FPS?

in gaming it's a huge test to GPU performance it's near to it but not really like it ...
How do U removed the Driver ? try DDU 13
Have U reinstalled the game or the OS ?

I just did DDU earlier. Reinstall went fine, no improvement. I also tried re installing the game and java, allocating more ram, and setting all case fans to max to see if temperature was the problem. Here is a link to the heaven benchmark I just rain on basic settings:

By the way, thanks for your help. Do you think this could be an optimization issue? Maybe Nvidia doesn't know what to do with Java? (Minecraft is a java game btw) Going to try TF2 again in a minute.

Going through the same thing again now that I have changed to an Sapphire R9 270. This time I did notice that the GPU usage spikes to around 90% for a second and then goes back down to around 20. I don't know what to do.

In this video a guy uses the same setup and plays a modified version of minecraft: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHjSlEtnRHE
The mod makes the game have shadows and moving foilage, which takes up a ton more GPU power, and somehow he still gets great FPS.

In Minecraft I get about 50 FPS at max settings, while my cheap laptop graphics card gets 200. Here are the tf2 frames you asked for as well:

On all settings at High, and texture detail set to Very High, I get 180FPS almost constantly. GPU usage goes to 40 max. Very confusing results.

Minecraft uses 30% max and gets 50 fps, a much simpler game than TF2. TF2 gets 200 FPS on near max settings. I have no clue what to do.

A common problem with minecraft is it is not intensive enough and will not force the GPU to clock up
yet it is just intensive enough to need a higher GPU clock.

I have heard of people doing mods to minecraft as well as increasing the idle GPU clock
m

How do I increase the idle GPU clock?
m

September 13, 2014 4:02:08 PM

I noticed an instant fps increase of almost 20 FPS when adding these arguments to the java global control panel:

-Xmx3G -Xms2G -XX:p ermSize=256M -XX:MaxPermSize=256M -XX:+UseParNewGC -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+CICompilerCountPerCPU -XX:+TieredCompilation

GPU Usage is still low. I disabled ULPS in MSI Afterburner with no result, this is supposed to disable power saving features. (Underclocking)

I think the ULPS thing only works on AMD cards. I don't know much about NVidia cards AFA clocks go.
I read that Rivetuner has a option to force high performance mode but they were old posts so hard to say if it still works.

On the Extreme preset benchmark, I got 32.4 FPS and a score of 816. Min FPS: 7.3 Max FPS: 74.2

It sticks at 98%, not 99% or 100% or 97%, it stays rock solid at 98%.

nice how are your fps with the r9 270
m

l
September 13, 2014 4:27:06 PM

In Minecraft, I get like 60 on max settings. When standing still with the java optimizations listed above, I get ~100. GPU usage stays around 25%.

In TF2 on near max settings I get 200 FPS and gpu usage is 30%.

September 13, 2014 4:32:44 PM

that's not nice, the minecraft FPS is the problem... when I move in minecraft the fps drops to like 20 and I get huge stuttering.

what graphic settings do you have in mnine craft and is this happening when you just created the world
m
0
l
September 13, 2014 4:39:34 PM

Yes to just creating the world, graphics are at 16 chunks, fancy, max smooth lighting, vsync off, vbos on, mipmap and anisotropic filtering off. I can play these settings on my GTX 765M (laptop's card) with 150+ FPS. This is a $170 card, should it not get better performance? Why can I play TF2 with such great frames and not a simple 3d, 16 bit texture game?
m

l
September 13, 2014 4:46:48 PM

minecraft is a cpu centric game but so you have performance set to max change from fancy to fast. but the game is always laggy when it is creating the world start a world and let it go for a while
m
0
l
September 13, 2014 4:52:52 PM

It's laggy on a server too. I just tried it in a world I've played in and it's good there too. Any other ideas?

have you tried turning off afterburner completely
m
0
l
September 13, 2014 5:01:04 PM

its try that minexraft is CPU bound
did you check your CPU usage in game?

I am think I missed it where you swapped our your card with an amd card
so the process for raising idle clocks is different

hang on.. I am on a nook right now let me get back to the desktop and post the right one
m
0
l
September 13, 2014 5:03:42 PM

CPU usage is at like 35% and the CPU overclocks itself to 3.65~ GHz (a 0.15 GHz increase).

I also just tried unparking my cores.

What do you mean turn off afterburner?

I know I'm asking a lot here, but this is a widely known issue. Maybe we can find a final solution to solve half the player's problems.

asin go to afterburner and turn it off make sure the little plane icon is not in the task bar it actually messes with some games im gonna go fire up my other computer and check my settings

September 13, 2014 5:08:08 PM

I tried that, but in the XML file I can't find the "CoreClockTarget_0" value?
m
0
l
September 13, 2014 5:09:49 PM

Also there is no "Want_2" value for MemoryClockTarget, and MemoryClockTarget is actually "MemoryClockTarget_PCI_VEN_1002&DEV_6811&SUBSYS_E271174B&REV_00_4&DE2C59F&0&0010A"

Nevermind, I'm an idiot. I don't know how I missed it, it's like the third entry. I cranked the first setting up to 80000 from 30000, no improvement.

I have to go for the night, but I hope to have your assistance tomorrow. I really appreciated it.

Thanks!
