ddr2 and ddr3 support?

Im gonna be making various upgrade purchases over the next two weeks. Wanna try to save money, maybe on ram. I could get my new mobo and have it support both so i dont have to put out the extra 70 for ram right now, but a month or two in the future. My mobo, cpu and gpu are my main focuses. So if someone with more motherboard knowledge could link me a few mobos that support both ram gens and is compatible with i5 4xxx series, thatd be awesome. Definitely looking to keep it below 100, but if i can wait on the ram upgrade, have some wiggle room. But i might allocate that money to processor or psu.

Dont think a mobo with everything i specified exists, and also is compatible with a q9400. But if someone knows better, im open to ideas.

Also the mobo has to support a 770/r9 280/r9 290 or 900 series.

I know i asked a lot. But thanks in advance

none of the core i series cpu's support ddr2 only ddr3, and its dependent on the cpu these days, memory controler is on the cpu die now, not on the motherboard like old core 2 duo series, you will need ddr3 ram if you plan on upgrading to core series cpu's (i3,i5,i7 all gens), there is no compatability between those platforms, only thing u can reuse is gpu's hdd's ssd's psu's, everything else has to be replaced

Not at once, but the option of either or. Ive read numerous places including this forum, that they do support both in some cases. I may be mistaken though.

I am going ddr3, but to save money atm ill stick with my current ddr2 setup

Hello... DDR2 is still getting good prices on Ebay... if you have 2 gb sticks, sell them. I sold 2x2gb ddr2 for the price of 1x8gb ddr3.
your 775 Quad might fetch a few $$ sell it with your MB as a set for a few dollars more... But you are at that awkward transition between DDr2 and DDr3...
Go with a 1155 or 1150 MB and intel i5 or i7 and 8gb DDr3, Win x64 and you wont think about your OLD computers... the performance is Wonderful.
Here is another Ebay option... wanna i7 3770 at below i5 price? http://www.ebay.com/itm/INTEL-XEON-QUAD-CORE-PROCESSOR-E3-1240V2-3-4GHZ-8MB-SMART-CACHE-5-GT-S-CPU-SR0P5-/141391955275?pt=CPUs&hash=item20eb9e054b
you wont get the IGT/gpu cpu option with it. B )

Your cpu was good in it's time, but is now near obsolete.
I would plan to sell parts individually on ebay. The Q6600 and DDR2 ram will sell, the motherboard will not.

DDR3 ram is currently cheapest and I would point towards some lga1150 motherboard.
I would look for any Z97 based motherboard which should be available at under $100.

Your Q6600 has a passmark rating of 2987.
By comparison a haswell dual core G3258 has a passmark rating of 3998 at 3.2 and it will overclock to 4.4.
At $70 you could start with that and even throw it away later.

I definitely would not spend any money on a board w/ DDR2 support, it is certainly outdated and not compatible w/ most new hardware. DDR4 is coming very soon, so even DDR3 will be a thing of the past in a couple of years.
