I am currently thinking about upgrading to a new graphics card from my current hd 7770. Which graphics card do you think would suit the amd fx-6300 the best in terms of gaming performance?

Solution

Hmmm... Good find. I have never seen someone run a high-end GPU with such a underpowered CPU. Well, if you do want to get the R9 280X with the 6300, I would say that the next upgrade you should do on that system is a CPU upgrade. Also make sure that your PSU is around 600W-650W. This is recommended by AMD for a 280X.
Sorry for the confusion, feel free to ask any more questions you have

The R7 250X, or R7 260X. I have seen people go way higher than that without a bottleneck. Around a 270X would probably be the max that CPU could take before the system bottlenecks.

I think the 280 may bottleneck and 770 definitely is. I am not 100% sure, but the most powerful card I have seen paired with your CPU is a 270X.
As for the CPU, AMD says there turbo is up to 4.1GHz. This means that when you get that chip, its not guaranteed that will can overclock over that 4.1GHz. Also the "Silicon Lottery" comes into play when overclocking. Your chip can arrive to you either a little better than most, or a little worse. Theres no way to know unless you have the chip.

Its a good cooler, and I don't think your gonna find anything better in that price range. It should get you to a pretty good clock without overheating.

No worries man, but thanks for trying to help anyway. I will be going with a Corsair 750w power supply and also a new case, the Zalman Z11 plus. Plus the aftermarket cooler you linked, the coolermaster hyper 212 evo to overclock the cpu. Thanks again!

anything higher than a gtx770/r9-280x wouldnt be useful. i would say currently the r9-280 is the sweet spot for price/performance $200 since its only a few bucks more than the r9-270x, but much faster. otherwise the r9-270 for about $150 would be a good choice.

No problem and good luck on the build ;)
As for the GPU, if you want performance with a budget over $180, 280 or the 280X would be the best.
