Motherboard internet problems

My brothers motherboard Ethernet port died and I was wanting to know if I got another board if I could just replace the other without doing anything else the board is a asus m5a97 r 2.0 and the cpu is a fx 6300

I would go into the system BIOS and disable the on-board Ethernet. Then install the new card into the computer and see if Windows installs the proper driver automatically.
