hello tom's hardware happy Saturday to you. My question is if you have a folder of the external hard drive open on windows , and don't close it when you go to press the eject icon on the bottom right, will that hurt it? or cause data lose? on the external.

If a file in the folder is open in a program when you eject the drive, then possibly yes. If you do not have a file in the folder open, no damage should occur.
