Computer- ASUS Q501L
Modem- Motorola DOCSIS 3.0
Router- Belkin F5D6231-4 802-11b
Adaptor- Intel Dual Band Wireless-N 7260
Windows 8.1 OS
ISP- Comcast

I just moved into a sublet with a roommate. He has a MacBook Air and connects no problem. We both have iPhones, and while they also connect, the speed is much slower on both devices.

However, my laptop just will not. Most of the time, the actual SSID won't even be visible. If i do actually connect, no website is accessible.

Here's the kicker for me. When I connect via the ethernet cable, there is also no internet access. The network displays as unidentified and limited.

Why does my roommate's computer connect while mine won't what do I do? This is pretty frustrating. Thanks.

Solution

try and right click > connect to the wi-fi. If this fails, check that it is enabled. Then right click Wi-Fi and go to properties. Scroll down to bottom of scroll window and make sure IPV4 is enabled.
to me it has to be the 802.11 b router that is ancient and super slow. pick up and cheap N router

what encryption I would say wep was only available? I know my phone would not connect to wep, my grandmothers router was set that way since her laptop only supported that since it was old

Thanks,

The router isn't encrypted. As old as it is, my friend's MacBook still connects no problem, and both of our computers are newer models.

All drivers are updated.
