Hi.

I have a reoccuring case of a quiet rattling noise coming out of my PC. It did happen from time to time ever since I have built the computer a few months ago, and after a few times I have noticed a pattern. The issue seems to be the GPU's fan (A Sapphire R9 270 Dual-X). I noticed that when I would just slightly touch the card, the sound would stop. I also started playing around in the driver settings, and managed to pinpoint that it rattles audibly at a fan speed of 51%.

Now, I guess one of the solutions would be to simply send it for RMA. I already went through this once (I got a DOA GPU first) and honestly I'd rather save myself the hassle... BUT, if it's actually neccesary, I am obviously able to do it.

Hope to get some helpful answers from you soon :)  I obviously looked around a bit before posting. There was a guy gluing something onto his GPU (NOT cool), a few people setting their fan speed to a different value (is it really solving the issue?), and obviously suggestions to go for RMA. What should I do? Is there actually a reason to worry?

If in warranty then RMA is top priority.

Adjust the speed of the fan thru Speed Fan Curve and let the software automatically adjusts the speed of the fan. If it does not work then create your own profiles on fan curve.

Also clean the fans on the HSF of the card.

Either the fan is going bad or something is loose on the card. In either case if it's under warranty RMA the card, because something is on it's way to failing.
