HP laptop won't boot up

I purchased a brand new HP laptop 2 days ago on Windows 8.1. Everything was fine yesterday and it booted up OK initially today but then it lost its connection to my wifi so I re-booted it. I re-booted in the usual manner and it didn't display any error messages but when trying to switch it back on, the orange light in the F12 key and the power light illuminate for about 30 seconds (solid lights) but it doesn't switch on the lights go out. I pulled the battery, pressed the power button for 30 seconds and re-connected the AC power but not the battery with no joy. Re-connected the battery and still nothing! Not great after only using it for about 3 hours in total :-(

If anyone can suggest anything else I can try I would be so appreciative :)

Its 2 days old. Take it back and get another one.
Why would you want to try to get something to work when its brand new? Brand new stuff you send back until you get a perfect one. Then in a year or two when the warranty is up your try getting it to work again.

If we did manage to get it to work but it really was a marginal unit to begin with then you could potentially be stuck with a lemon. You'd be out of the exchange/return period and have to suffer with a week to 2 month warranty returns.

Thanks Popatim, I do fully intend to get an exchange but I also needed it for tonight so I hoped someone might be able to help me get it running again until I can sort the exchange on Monday :)
