Completely removing power from system

Hi. I have a stupid question :)

I know, I should really know this already, I've just never really thought about it.

Basically, my system is connected to the wall through a socket box (or whatever you Yanks call it) with a switch. Every night I turn off my system and when it's shut down I flick the switch on the socket box, effectively killing any standby power my system would otherwise receive. It's effectively the equivalent of yanking out the PSU power cable when my system is already shut down.
I do this mainly because I sleep in the same room and turning off the socket box also turns of some annoying LEDs on the socket box and on my system itself.

The thing is, doesn't a computer receive standby power when it's off for a reason, other than for example charging phones etc when it's powered down? Does it make any difference whatsoever to just turn off the power completely?

It is perfectly fine to completely turn off the power as you are doing. Since the system is getting shut down properly and then you are turning off the power draw, that is fine. The biggest thing of a computer still drawing power while being turned off is that it will keep the system kind of warmed up for faster booting (well, sort of) and that it continues to provide power to the components.
