Hello all,
I just got a new western digital blue hdd 1tb. Before I got this I already had windows installed on a samsung 840 evo ssd and I had another wd green 1tb installed for extra storage. After I installed the blue I went into the manage disk partitions screen and it saw the blue but when I tried to create a partition on the drive the disk manager crashed. Then when I tried to open the manager again the manager would be stuck on the loading disk information screen. I decided to restart my computer but now my computer will not even boot. It is stuck at the windows logo and the spinning loading icon. If I unplug the new hdd the computer boots fine so I know the problem is from the new hdd. If anyone has help as to what I could do it would be greatly appreciated.

With the new HDD plugged in, I'd go into the BIOS SETUP (F2? Tap the DELETE key?) and see how the motherboard views this new HDD. Your SSD and WD Green are probably "AHCI", yes? I'd make sure the new Blue is also AHCI, too. Save this config, and see what happens.

If the MB BIOS doesn't recognize the Blue - if it's not listed - then "DOA" could be a likely scenario. (And that's better than having it filled up for weeks or months and dying!)

It is listed as AHCI. I managed to get the computer to boot by turning on hot swapping on my mobo and then plugging in the blue after I am in windows. when I open up devmgmt.msc it lists the blue as one of my hardware drives. But now whenever I open the disk manager it gets stuck in connecting to virtual disk service.

The partition thing is under disk management which does t open with the blue connected. I'm gonna give up working on this for today so I'm not sure what I am gonna be doing but I am probably just gonna return this drive and look for a new one.
