Hello to everyone,

I am on Windows 8.1 with a Samsung S19D300 monitor.

The screen resolution by default is 1366x768 (set as the recommended resolution in the Windows Control Panel) on Windows and on my monitor.

The problem is that the screen is not well adjusted since it leaves a black gap on the right hand corner, whereas the Windows start menu button is barely visible on the left. It really looks like it is not well centered. So, in order to use the OS properly, I am obliged to switch to 1280x768.

I have the monitor drivers installed. I tried to make the proper adjustments from the monitor switching from 'wide' to 'auto' and the other way around in the picture settings while being under 1366*768, but nothing changes. As for trying from Windows, it is impossible to make a custom resolution adjustment.

There is a quick software I got from the monitor's CD (with the drivers), but there is no way to adjust the resolution.

It is quite annoying that the monitor's capacities are not entirely used with this big black stripe on the right... And it shows whatever resolution I use, 1366*768, but also 1280*768...

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

That's because of D-Sub (VGA) connection. You need to enter menu on the monitor itself (not via Windows) via buttons on the monitor and select auto-adjustment option. Consult manuals you got with the monitor for exact steps. Make sure you set 1366x768 resolution in Windows *before* you do that.

Pardon me, I forgot to give you the full reference. It is actually a SAMSUNG S19D300NY, and it is definitely a monitor for computer use. No TV settings at all, since it is not one. As I said, the graphics card control panel simply recommends 1366*768. I can't enter a random size. In the basic settings, it suggests to detect or identify, and it displays the number 1.

The problem is that I am unable to understand whether the issue comes from Windows or the monitor itself...

I had set the picture settings to 'auto' on the monitor, but I think I was on the other resolution doing so. I am going to try with 1366*768 on.

EDIT -- Thanks, @amigafan, it definitely changed something, now I can see the windows button, but there is still an inch left of the black 'stripe' on the right. On the left, it is much better, but the screen does not show the first letter of the names of programs on the desktop if they are quite long. Perhaps restarting the computer with the brand new settings will help a bit?

Thanks for answering.
