Replacement for MS WORD

My MS WORD program has expired. I am looking for a free download for something similar - mainly for letter writing. Hopefully easy to download on Windows 8.1.

I use Open Office on Win7. I presume it will work on Win8 as well.

I guess Notepad or Textpad are not options? Aside from those you can do googledocs

Presumably your MS Word was a 30 day trial? Because a regular Word or Office doesn't 'expire'.

I'm with USAFRET on this - either the free Libre or free Open Office. These will appear 'old style' but you can customize menus and toolbars far more extensively than any MS product.

And when I can't customize those (for example, the Excel-replacement CALC doesn't allow a pop-up Hyperlink selection), I can customize a keystroke combo (like Ctrl-Alt-H for "hyperlink).

When either are installed, you'll be asked if you'd like to let them become default DOC, XLS, PPT, etc products and, "Yes" is appropriate so you can access your old files without delay.

I uninstall MS Office ?? whatever version ?? before I install either successor.
