I have the h100i was expecting it to be better but my temps dont go above 65 in bf4. In occt i reach low 80's using sp quiet editon fans so its pretty quiet too.

For overclocked CPU and H100i those are good temps. I will personally soon get H100i and 4790k too.

I can't get anything stable higher than 4.5ghz. 4.6ghz at 1.28vcore is the closest I can get, however after leaving on the stress test for around 3-5 minutes it ends up crashing. Max load temps are at 80-85c with sunbeam contact freezer.

Guess it's gonna be 4.5ghz like my good ol' i5 2500k.

I ended up stablizing my 4790k at 4.6ghz with 1.312vcore on air..

Damn liquid cooling. I'm still confused how people are stable 4.7ghz at 1.25v even when temps aren't the issue.

My temps are completely fine but it just simply crashes at that voltage level, it isn't enough.

It's all the luck of the silicone lottery. I do 4.7ghz at 1.268v but for 4.8ghz, I have to jump up to 1.35v and even then it's only stable for a few hours before I get a BSOD while testing it with prime.

I've read other people doing 5ghz under 1.3v which blows my mind that anyone could get that lucky but ultimately overclocks that high seem to be the exception not the rule. 4.6ghz is still plenty fast on that architecture so it's by no means bad. It just goes to show how inconsistently binned the 4790k is and how Intel's marketing was BS when it came to the overclocking headroom of it as well.

Yeah interesting. Not complaining at 4.6 by all means as 4.7 and 4.8 won't see much performance gain anyways. You're right about the marketing about OC headroom especially from a base clock of 4.0ghz, 5.0 would seem atleast the norm. My old i5 2500k was stable at 4.5 from a stock of 3.3 which was very nice but hey atleast I beat the 2500k's speed :)

I guess if you want to be pedantic, the 4790k is a factory-overclock 4770k so a 4.7ghz OC from an original 3.5ghz clock is fantastic in the grand scheme of things.

In that case it's some decent headroom.

1.30 was my goal but 4.6 simply could not handle 1.28 even with temperatures in the 50's.

I set a manual voltage level of 1.28 or 1.29 vcore to stay within max range in the mobo settings but it appears it's off a bit and auto bumped the end vcore to 1.312 under full load. Did the trick anyways it's stable now, with max 100% load temps in the mid 60's under AIDA64 cpu stresser using hyper 212 evo. Great cooler as well.
