So bought a cheapo comp online/used, got BSOD'd about 5 times and eventualy fixed the problem. Anyway, now CPU fan is running loud and i decided to upgrade basically everything.

Its old tech, talking, Intel Q35 chipset, Intel R Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3Ghz, blah blah blah.

So!

Purchased:

cpu
AMD FX-6300

mobo
ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 AM3+ AMD 760G + SB710 HDMI USB 3.0 uATX AMD Motherboard

ram
HyperX Fury Black Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model HX316C10FBK2/8

gpu
SAPPHIRE 100364L Radeon R9 270X 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

psu
EVGA 100-W1-500-KR 500W ATX12V / EPS12V 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC

Also bought windows 8 for $70

Have a 128gb SSD, stats mostly unknown, and a 500gb HDD (external)

I will hopefully be able to transfer all within my Antec Case and keep my optical drive it came with,

Tomshardware website has been the #1 resource for choosing what I did but also:

Based my build off of this:

Purchased on Newegg.ca

As I am an amateur, I am wondering if anyone has anything to say about this setup regarding gaming/steam, photo editing, and general browsing/home theater(netflix).

Yeah this would be good enough for gaming to achieve a solid 60FPS in medium to ultra settings - depending on what game. Although, the EVGA 500w PSU is able to run this system but barely. I would recommend on swapping it out for a 600w to add headroom so you don't get any crashes when your PC is running at full load.

Everything is great except I would get a different motherboard and a new CPU cooler as the stock AMD ones are quite loud.. An Acrtic Cooling freezer Pro 7 will do the trick.

Sweet, yeah, budget atm dictates no cpu cooler for a few more paychecks, i was looking at the same EVGA 650W, figured that would be enough for a while!? thanks for fast replies

No need for a 650w.... A 450w will be enough for your build :) Save the money and get a cooler ;)

Kind of a shame you purchased all your parts already, we could have helped you get similar or better parts for a cheaper price.

Here's a 270x that's a bit cheaper as the Sapphire and just as good:

edit: you probably mean credit card instead of graphics card I'm guessing... my mistake. I'll post a build soon.

Didn't include Windows because you can find it at a cheaper price. The ones listed on this website are around $100. Also check to see if your case can fit ATX motherboards.

RazerZ you're my hero man. I dont know, I have a very large Antec case with no model numbers or anything on it. Aparrently its some sort of quiet case but its definitely one of the larger towers and not a mini or medium size one. Idk.
So this kit is essentially what i picked out if not better?
should I include the Acrtic Cooling freezer Pro 7 for the whole 20 bucks?
Should i not get a 650W psu just incase?
That price is way more in my budget haha! I have money for beer now too

Mmhm it's actually better than what you picked out because with this board you can achieve a decent overclock with an aftermarket cooler. Something like a 212 EVO or the Zalman optima outlander posted would do.

If you uploaded a pic of the case we might be able to help identify the model... it's always good to be sure everything is compatible before you buy.

Cant wait for my new stuff!

So far picked:

Fx 6300

MSI R9 270X 2Gb

XTX TS 550W

Gigabyte GA-970A UD3

Arctic Freezer 7

Still selecting RAM but definitely 8gb (2x4gb) - 1866Mhz? - (sould I go better or less depending on mobo and cpu?)
- would 16gb make a difference for gaming and photo editing?

Will have to find windows 8 somewhere because I have no bootable OS. (did not come with cheap desktop purchase used)

Will any of this system bottleneck do you think?
Enough power in psu?
And then just the ram question above?

thanks for your help I felt slightly unsure of choices.

The case looks like an Antec Sonata II but the pictures can only get me so far.. Here's the link to the case and you can confirm if it's the same model: http://www.acoustiproducts.com/en/acoustipack_antec_sonata_2_case.asp

Everything looks good in the parts you have picked out except the cooler. Swap it for this one, it's much better: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/part/zalman-cpu-cooler-cnps9900aled

For gaming 8GB is all you need, but for professional photo editing 16GB would be a good choice. 1866mhz is fine, if there's a small difference in price go ahead and get it, otherwise 1600mhz would work just as well.

Nothing in this system will bottleneck and the PSU will provide enough power for the system.

It is that tower indeed. I'll probably start with 8gb and upgrade to 16gb when i can afford to. I do alot of photo editing so.

Will this cooler just not suffice? Its already purchased so... returning fees and blah.. but to o.c. to 4.4~ mghz i'll do what I gotsta

If you already purchased then just leave it at that, not worth paying the return fee to swap it for another cooler.

It should be fine for an overclock around 4.2Ghz, but the OC limit really depends on the quality of the chip you get, also known as the "silicon lottery".

sounds like you've been around once or twice,

thank you so much for time and efforts RazerZ!
I'll appreciate it every time I'm editing or gaming or even just starting er up
