for some reason at&t gave my sister-in-law a mobile hot spot instead of a router. We now have a roku device installed on the tv and the hot spot is not only too far away, it needs to be charged often and can't be left plugged in, I bought a net gear router and the computer connects to the router but will not connect to the internet. HELP! My intent is only to allow both devices access to the net, but if I can use the router for only the roku and leave her with the mobile hot spot, cool but I can't seem to figure it out.

Solution
If you can't move the hotspot, you'll need to have a wireless extender (or repeater) to improve the wifi range.

Some Netgear routers can be used in extender or repeater mode, so you'll need to check your documentation on the particular model. If it doesn't support it, you can purchase a range extender or a new router that supports this mode.
