Ping too high, new router?

Whenever I play Cs:Go my ping bounces around from 60 to 200 to 700. I'm a total noob and don't even know how ping works but would upgrading my router do me better. I'm pretty far from it, probably like 20 ft. I have an Apple Airport Extreme and it probably has around 15 devices connected to it.

It is dual band - 2.4GHz and 5 GHz. If you use a dual band wifi adapter and use the 5GHz band, you'll get twice the speed out of the router.
