Help with Razer mouse

I just purchased a Razer Deathadder mouse. I got it home and plugged it in and it powered up (the LEDs on the mouse lit up), but the cursor would not move. Using my old mouse, I installed the Synapse 2.0 update installer to see if installing the drivers would help, but no. The program was asking me to plug in a compatible device, which I had already done. I tried it in different USB ports and nothing. Restarting with it plugged in didn't help either.

Assuming it was a hardware issue, I took the mouse back to the store and they happily replaced it for me. I got it home and the same problem. Hmmmm. This time when it was plugged into a front USB port it was at least showing up in my list of devices, but still no functionality. The driver installer still did not recognize it. I tried un-installing the driver software and re-installing/rebooting, but that did not help.

I think it's highly unlikely that I would get two faulty units in a row, so I suspect something else is up here, but I'm not sure what. I never have issues with new devices or drivers, so I'm confident that this issue is related directly to the mouse.

Here are my relevant system specs:

Processor: Intel Core i5-3470 @ 3.20GHz
Ram: 8 GB
O/S: Windows 7 64 bit

Thanks in advance for any help/insight!

Solution
Yes, I tried all combinations of rebooting my computer and installing the host software. I have no issues at all with that port or any others. Two different ports on my comp didn't work, but with different symptoms.

I checked with a roommates Mac and it worked just fine right off the bat. I slept on it for a few days (figuratively) and tried it on an 3rd USB port (after trying the easiest to access in the back and one of the front ones). This one was at the bottom of the panel and is labeled as "Intel(R) 7 series/C216" in my device manager. All of the other inputs have generic names. It is now working A-OK and I have no issues with the host software.

How do I marked this as solved? :sarcastic:
does it work on another pc or with your rear ports?

did you have your pc off and start it up with the mouse already attached?

do you have any other issues with any other devices with that usb port?

a deathadder will work with windows mouse drivers. it doesnt "need" synapse 2.0 to work.

the big green "pick as the solution" button will mark this as solved.

now that you provided that information to me what it may be is a usb controller problem (likely driver based which needs to be reinstalled). for example one usb controller may be used for the usb3.0 jacks while a completely different one for the usb 2.0 jacks. one could work fine and the other one could not (again, likely you need to install the drivers for the other controller).
