Building a server to make money and play games

Hey everyone,

This is not a post for testing the waters. I AM going to build a custom server and use it for LAN game hosting for gaming to make money and such as a server in many ways but gaming would be my main bet.

Question: Is it recommended to have a dual-CPU socket motherboard? I want Haswell-E and can wait til a dual x99 socket mobo comes out if two of those types of CPU's are a good idea or overkill for game hosting.

Question: Could anyone tell me the kind of specs I'd need to host 50 people playing a game like Runescape or Just Cause 2 on my own server? These are just examples. This would be what I'd aim for.

So I was hoping some of you guys might help link me parts for a complete build? My only requirements are below:

1) I want Haswell-E CPU (x99 chipset for the new Intel 8-core). I can afford two CPU's if it's recommended
2) A mobo with 2 or more GPU slots to fit the newest AMD Radeon GPU's (they are 12" long)
3) Run on Windows 7 Ultimate at least when it's being used for me in my personal time. (Don't worry about noise or heating up rooms, I have that all covered already).

This would be a small server, medium at most aiming for the $6000 range with $10,000 being my max
Thanks everyone!

You outdid yourself!!! I will buy this exact config. I love all of the parts you've chosen and I trust them too! One question, is a single 8 core good enough as a server or should I use your config but simply wait for a dual socket mobo for the Haswell? Thank you so much!

servers are not limited by cpu but by upload bandwidth. A quad core with 32GB ram could be a server easily for online game hosting, but you'd need to get business class internet and make sure upload speeds are over 50Gbps and not just fast download speeds. A LAN party bypasses this with the Thunderbolt 2 card but the compters all have to be in the same room
