Windows 7 home premium

I think this problem is inhibiting my ability to install the R7-265 graphics card.
The first time i loaded my pc with the graphics card connected (computer on, hdmi cable hooked up to mb port) monitor did not recognize my pc. Tried rebooting several times before disconnecting the card, system recognized and runs fine.

Read on a forum about changing the graphics settings in Bios from "auto" to "PCI-E" to change primary video card from internal to my card. Loaded up Bios, changed to PCI-E, save and restart. Load Bios again to find that the settings have reset. Messed around with some different settings to find that only changes to the boot order stay.

After this, i have loaded the most recent bios for mb, put a new cmos battery in, and cleared cmos memory. None of the above worked.

Got the Battery from radio shack, I've heard the shelf life on these things isn't so great but 2 bad batteries?? One from a new mother board?

There is most likely something obvious i am missing so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Solution
If you used *hdmi cable hooked up to mb port* and at the same time PCI-E videocard plugged in PCI-E slot - that is not right.
Use integrated videocard with empty PCIE slot or use PCIE videocard with cable connected only to PCIE videocard.
