You can probably play it on medium, considering you have at least 4GB of RAM.
If you have 3 or less, then expect to play it at low settings with 2xAA and V-Sync disabled.

Ive got 5 gb ram. Do you think I will be able to handle it on medium settings? I feel like with this new gaming technology it will be not as hard on the computer as this game would have been when far cry 3 came out.

Yes,with 5GB of RAM you can expect to play it on medium with maybe 2xAA and without V-Sync.
I would consider upgrading to 8GB of brand new RAM when you get enough money, but 5GB will suffice for medium settings on pretty much any game.

Can you tell me what 2xAA and V-sync are?

AA is Anti Alliasing,V-Sync is Vertical Syncronization.

Basically, both are there to improve the look of the charaters, the surroundings etc..i.e. to improve the graphics of the game. :)
