Since a week now, I'm unable to access FB peacefully on my browsers, Firefox and chrome. It starts working all of a sudden, and then decides to stop working. Every other page works fine.

On firefox, the typical message

The connection has timed out

The server at www.facebook.com is taking too long to respond.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

On Chrome

This webpage is not available

I've tried loading in Opera, IE...No, doesn't work. However, it does work in Como do sandbox. I'm only running Comodo. Windows firewall is off.

That's my story. Help please :( :(

Forgot to mention. Uninstalled, re-installed every possible browser.

Now, what internet settings am I supposed to change in the control panel? Could you be more specific?

1) go to tools and click options

2) click on the advanced button and then click the network tab

3) then under connections click settings

4) click auto-detect proxy settings for this network.

Mr.Night owl,

Why is that this problem was only effecting FB? And as I changed the privacy settings, FB loads fine. How come the other sites were not affected?

I would have her check her OSPF Neighbor relationships. They should all show FULL. If any are loading, this is not good.

Like this:
*Nov 26 13:05:30.599: %OSPFv3-5-ADJCHG: Process 1, Nbr 2.2.2.2 on Serial0/0 from LOADING to FULL, Loading Done

It could be a problem anywhere along the path between your computer and the Facebook server. When your computer tried to access Facebook, it first uses DNS to look for the IP address of Facebook's server. The DNS server provides the address to your computer. Next, your computer sees that this IP address is not on its own subnet, so it APRs for its own gateway's MAC address. Once the gateway responds with this, your computer sends the traffic for the Facebook server out to the gateway, which will again see it is not directly connected to that subnet. It will forward the frames (broken up chunks of data) to your ISP. The ISP router will look in its routing table to find a path to Facebook's server, and will forward the frames again to the next hop router. This will continue until the traffic reaches its destination. Once there, the Facebook server will process this data, and send a reply. That reply will go through the same process in reverse order to get back to your computer. Once back at your computer, the data must reach layer 7 of the OSI model, which is the Application layer. There are all kinds of errors that could happen there, as shown with tweaking your browser fixing the issue. So you can see there are many places where a small hiccup could cause a breakdown in communications along the way. Hope this explanation cleared things up a bit for you.

System restore did not help. Disabling proxy did not help. Have seen this problem before. Its very annoying. Ahy help would be much appreciated.
