Hi all,

I had the 100% disk usage and extremely slow read/write speeds problem.
I think I've sorted it now, but decided to run HD tune to see what state my HDD is in.

The test came up with 5.1% damaged blocks (out of 955Gb)

Is it time to get a new HDD or is there a way of repairing damaged blocks?

Thanks

HDDs 'get slow' sometime after the 60%-capacity-filled level is reached. If you filled this up to 100%, then it's performing like you want it to - suuuu-looooowwww. (Ever drive around a huge parking lot that's almost full, looking for just one slot? Well - that's what you've done to a full hard-drive - it takes so much time for it to find any free space, and it's constantly "driving around". Fortunately, the User is the one with all the cars/data parked - free up a lot of space, and it's a lot quicker.)

I'd move (a COPY then DELETE, or just a DELETE and take the trash out) at least half of the data to another hard-drive, then run your standard weekly disk diagnostics.
