Okay guys so I've had my EVGA GTX 770 for about 2 months now. There doesn't seem to be any problems with it other than one thing - Coil whine. Now this is what's bugging me, the coil whine ONLY happens when playing games without V-sync, which really sucks because I'm not that bothered about screen tearing and would choose performance over that any day. And one game I really enjoy is locked at 30FPS with V-sync and there's no fix available. Also my GPU seems to get abnormally hot when not using V-sync? Like the max temperature I've come across is 80 degrees and that seems not too bad considering people say to keep under 100 and you're fine. And yeah playing Far Cry 3 sucks with V-sync because it has some graphical glitches which seems not to happen when not enabled, plus a big drop in quality, I'd be able to run it at ultra no problem 60FPS if it wasn't for that and I have to have a high-very high mix which doesn't REALLY look as good as this card can handle. I wanna get the most out of it ya know? Anyway I'm pretty sure it's coming from the GPU and not the PSU, which some people say it can come from, which I find weird, but I'll listen and let you know but it changes in pitches and certain points so I'll believe it is the graphics card. Anyway yeah is there any fix or should I try RMA or is this normal?

Coil whine is not normal. But then again, I have came across coil whine from EVGA made cards on several occasions (the other ones I have heard were MSI).

Please post all your specifications, and don't forget power supply - brand and model, case - brand and model.

The coil whine is probably from the transformer inside the PSU. This can happen under higher loads; not normal but can happen in some instances. Another possible source for the noise (not coil whine) would be the fans in the graphics card revving at higher RPMs under higher loads. Improving the air flow inside the case will help.

I have the same card and I'm also having these problems except FC3. I can max out that game and maintain 58-62 FPS (no V-Sync). Also, is that 30 FPS locked game NFS Rivals? There's a fix for that.

I might RMA my card if one day the coil whine gets too heavy. Right now it's fine. I reach a max of 74C under load by the way.

Yea that happens. I have been down this road as well. U either get it replaced or just live with it. I replaced my 660 3 times and all had coil whine. But in the end it doesn't really matter. It's just an annoyance really. I've had it now for 1.5 years and it runs cool ( barely 65 degrees in intensive games while barely getting to 54 in WoW/Dota2 ) and I've had no problems with glitches/artifacts and such. Hell I even replaced the Bios for maximum wattage, still working like a charm.

I would say reaching 80 degrees in high end games is fine. It might be your case ventilation. Hard to say without being there. It's also summer atm so unless u have AC turned on constantly in your room, it's gonna get hotter especially when stressing the card on ultra-high in the newer games.

I would say, try and RMA it once. And if still happens just keep it like that. Also try improving your case ventilation and wire management ( if that's even an issues, im just spitting balls here ).

Some say its from the PSU which it can be true but in most cases is just the GPU having the coil whine. My three 660s that I have had replaced all were tested on 3 PSUs and in the end it still whined.

TLDR; RMA IT once - > Still does that ? - > live with it ( headphones help )

LE : You need to put your year near your stuff and hear if its the FANS or mb yourPSU. If not it's the GPU and it will be fine. People need to stop making you freak out:).

Hi I reach 80C which I'm not too worried about and also I was wrong about Far Cry 3 I don't get coil whine with V sync and no the 30FPS lock game is Godfather 2. I can max FC3 out and get 60FPS mostly but sometimes 50FPS, I do have 2x MSAA anti aliasing though see. I'm pretty sure the performance is as it should be. I'm not so much worried about my graphics card now, more my hard drive LOL.
