Hello all

I am muddling alongtrying to build my first PC. I have a question RE the sata cables as I am not sure how to cnnect them. Ok I understand that they only fit in the drives and psu in one orientation.

The EVGA 850w G2 PSU came with
2 x 3 SATA 5 pin cables
1 x 4 SATA 5 pin cables

My question is: Can I connect the drive end of the SATA cable into several drives. e.g. can he 1 x 4 SATA cable be attached to 4 drives? If not does it matter which SATA connector I use on the cable if plugging into only 1 drive. I have a DVD CD player , ssd, and a HDD to connect.

Also does anyone know what 'hot-plug' and 'NCQ' means regarding the SATA mode selection in the BIOS? I wouldnt know if I was hot plugging or not :/

Please help :)

Many thanks ndeed in advnce, for your valued advce!

Solution
All the SATA power connectors are the same and you can connect multiple drives on the same cable. Since modern HDDs use only about 1A each, using all four connectors on the same cable if you need to should not be a problem.
You can plug 4 drives (SSD, HDD, ODD, etc) into a 4 connector SATA power cable, no problem. The hot plug feature is usually used for drives mounted in the external drive bays that are connected and disconnected frequently. It's not usually needed for internally mounted drives.

if you cable has four sata plugs on it, you can plug four sata devices into it.
Hot plugging is the ability to add a HDD whilst the PC is on, if you don't intend to do this then turn it off.
NCQ - native command queuing, I don't think it makes a huge difference to a non-server.
You probably want to use AHCI.
