Unbelievably I could not get confirmation anywhere, except this site: http://www.max-web.co.za/index.php/hardware-shop/notebooks/lenovo-ideapad-g5070-i3-4010u-detail.html that the G50-70 has dual channel memory capability. Not even in the Lenovo product manual did it reference the information but since almost all modern configurations do support it and the specs on that site indicate that it does support it, we'll go with the assumption that they are correct.

That being said you have a couple of options. Dual channel mode requires matched modules for operation so if you want dual channel mode which doubles the effective speed of the memory you would need to purchase 8GB of memory. If you just want to add 4GB and hope it is compatible...

That being said you have a couple of options. Dual channel mode requires matched modules for operation so if you want dual channel mode which doubles the effective speed of the memory you would need to purchase 8GB of memory. If you just want to add 4GB and hope it is compatible enough with your current memory to run in standard modes, you only need 4GB. I'd recommend getting a matched pair, but a single 4gb upgrade will most likely work too.

That unit does, of a certainty, require 204 pin 1600mhz DDR3L SODIMMs. The L being important as 1.5v DDR3 SODIMMs will not work in it. It MUST be DDR3L. There are a multitude of forum threads indicating folks who went with standard ddr3 sodimms had failure to POST issues.

Here are a few options.

2 x 4GB matched modules for dual channel mode:

Single 4GB upgrade:

And if you want to add an 8GB module in addition to your current 4GB module for a total of 12GB:

You're only four months late. For future reference, you should pay attention to the date of the last post on any given thread, and whether or not it already shows as solved. Tom's hardware staff appreciates it if you don't Necro threads that are already dead.
