TV Does Not Recognize Laptop via HDMI

I have a 2010 ASUS UL30-A laptop and a 2010 Panasonic Vierra EDTV. The long and short of it is that when the two are connected by a 24" HDMI cable the computer recognized the TV, but when I check the TV's menu for attached devices it only shows the DVD player and VCR. HDMI is grayed out as if nothing was attached.

The laptops's Display adapter is the Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset family and its driver(s) are updated and the HDMI cable is of good quality.

I have attempted what I think is every possible scenario for connecting the devices but with no luck
(both devices off > attach the cable > start laptop > start TV, etc, etc.). with both devices on and
connected, with the Panasonic TV set as the primary display I have tried every setting in Display.from extending desktop, duplicate display, etc. When Fn + F8 is depressed a popup appears and indicates whether the laptop's LCD is the primary output and when depressed again the LCD blacks out and the popup indicates HDMI only....but nothing displayed on the TV.

Unfortunately I do not have another device for streaming to see if the issue is with the TV. So if someone has an idea that I could try I'd be more than receptive. By the way, I sent in a request to the tech department at ASUS for their input and was told that because the warranty had lapsed to send in the laptop + a nice payment for them to investigate and test the hardware and software. Any fixes would be at extra charge but would address nothing on the TV end of the equation if that's where the problem actually lies. Just a little disappointed that they would not even offer things to try

Thank you in advance for any help or direction.
