Iomega ext hdd powers, spins head mives but it just beeps and isn't found on my pc

I have the same drive with the same issue. Took it apart (nothing to lose now) and the head is swinging back and forth and when it reaches it's innermost portion of the swing, it beeps and repeats the pattern.

With or without the USB cable.

Um. There was something to lose - I don't know what you're trying to reply to, but it's quite possible that you could have gotten data off it with a software or PCB fix. Opening it is zilch chance, though.

That symptom is usually indicative of a read failure. The drive cant read the platters. It could be a failed head, it could also be something on the pcb.

New pcbs are $30-35 depending on the exact model and a new 1tb drive is ~$50. Since my data is backed up, i wouldnt bother with a pcb either.
