I have a bit of a head scratcher going on right now, so I was hoping someone might be able to help shed a little light.
Yesterday I finally put my pc on top of my desk after having moved to a new place. It booted up no problem, and while it was a little slow opening web pages at first I chalked that up to a networking issue rather than a hardware or software performance problem.
Prior to placing the machine atop the desk, it was sitting on the floor and it worked just fine.
Moving along, I decided to play some Injustice: Gods Among Us. I thought it was curious that the game did not detect my Xbox 360 controller even though the LED on the controller had lit up green, so I unplugged it and plugged it back in and the game recognized the controller.
I selected my game mode and went through the menus. As soon as I was at the point where the gameplay should load, my monitor suddenly returned a no signal and began going into power save mode. The pc was still on. Next, my keyboard and mouse went dark, but the machine itself was still on, as though the USB controller had been turned off.
I powered down the machine, turned off the power supply and opened the case. I reseated the GPU - I had an issue with it becoming loose before - and also reseated the DVI cable both on the card and on the monitor. I even swapped it to the other DVI output on the card.
I booted the machine and it POSTed and began to boot to windows, but I did notice a pattern of vertical lines appearing in the black background, like the video was not rendering properly. It booted to the point that says "starting Windows" and hung for a few seconds. Next, the machine rebooted on its own.
I went ahead and manually shut the machine down again, reseated all expansion cards, booted with the case open to make sure all the fans were spinning. I then received the windows prompt to either start windows normally or go to the automated recovery tool.
I ran the automated recovery tool, and that's where I am now. That seemed to load without any issue, though I still see some of the same distorted color in the background, like these lines of blue pixels just flattened down. It's difficult to explain, it almost looks like scanlines, but not all the way across, just in blocks.
I'm still working with the windows recovery tool, but not really sure what may have caused this. I assume that during the course of the move I may have knocked something loose, but I won't rule out that it might be correlation without causation. Could it be a psu issue or even something as simple as one of the psu cables being loose?
I bult the pc, it is using an MSI GTX 570 card. The motherboard is a MSI p-67 and the cpu is i5 sandy bridge 3.3, 8GB DDR3, Windows 7 64-bit.
