How about we wait until it is actually available in the consumer space before we freak out about what specific cable to use...

What are the requirements to use Project FreeSync?
"To take advantage of the benefits of Project FreeSync, users will require: a monitor compatible with DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync, a compatible AMD Radeon™ GPU with a DisplayPort connection, and a compatible AMD Catalyst™ graphics driver. AMD plans to release a compatible graphics driver to coincide with the introduction of the first DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync monitors."

Freesync doesn't exist yet for consumers, but in addition to a compatible Displayport cable, you will also need a 285x, 290, or 290x card. All other AMD GPUs are incompatible with Freesync.

Seriously, Freesync does not exist yet. There is no cable you can buy that will allow you to use Freesync. But when it does, the above USFRet quoted is likely what will be needed, but until it is released, things can change (though unlikely).
