Comparing this to my dvi to vga display it looks much lighter and blurry almost, but not to the point where i can't read stuff.

Note: i can't plug my hdmi cable all the way in due to the orientation of my graphics card and the slots on the case.

Case: NZXT Phantom 410
GPU: Nvidia gtx 780 classified

It sort of sounds like your contrast or gamma settings are not set correctly. Can you check these in your on screen display?

Try reducing contrast to something like 60.

By the way, what screen is it?

So to clarify: You are comparing the same monitor plugged in with an HDMI cable directly (that doesn't fit), to the same monitor plugged in with a VGA-DVI adapter?
