HD5870 VRM Heating during Memtest86

Hello All,

I am running a PC with an HD5870 (reference board), ASUS P6T mobo, 3x2GB OCZ Platinum 1333MHz RAM, and i7 960 CPU.

To troubleshoot my RAM I was recently running memtest86 for extended periods of time (hours to overnight).

The weird thing is, my graphics card PCB was uncomfortably warm/hot to the touch after these extended memtest runs. Is it normal for memtest to stress the GPU to some extent?

This imgur link shows a picture of the part of the PCB that was hot; it is the far end of it by the power connectors.

I have checked, and this is not hot while idling on desktop. The heatsink / PCB over the actual GPU/VRAM modules was not hot. GPU-Z reports idle temperatures of 40C for GPU and VDDC.

I believe this is where the VRMs are located on the PCB, does this behavior indicate some problem with them on my GPU?

Thanks in advance for the help!
