Guys, I heard about thunderbolt technology while watching one of linus' videos and I wanted to find out what it was. I've googled it in every way I can think of and I've watched 3 or 4 videos on youtube about it, some of which were like 15 minutes long. Unfortunately, none of that really describes what it does very well. It drastically improves read/write speed? So it makes my hdd/sdd faster? But it could potentially be plugged into a monitor? You can daisy chain it? Does that give you even better performance? I'm sorry if this is obvious and I'm being stupid, but could someone please explain exactly what it does and what kind of consumer would be interested in such a product? Thanks in advance.

It's a data port like usb, but it's mostly just apple using it, plus it combines displayport for video. It's the same plug as mini displayport so you can plug mdp into it but not vice versa: you can't plug a tb device into mdp.
