Hi
My daughter and her boyfriend did a computer science with games development degree at Hull university which is one of only two universities to be accredited with the gaming industry. Her boyfriend is now working as a games developer within a games studio for a AAA title in Guildford.
The usual language for high end games is C ++ .
Since you are doing your GCSEs then you will need to concentrate on physics and maths and your A levels should be computer science and maths preferably.
According to my daughter any programming in any language will be beneficial to you as they will all give you the basics in logic that is needed but that it is probably better to be taught the correct way to program so that you get into good...

Is there an after school computer club at your school?
Or perhaps you could enrol on a night course at your local college.
I'm sorry I don't know of any cheap software for this but I hope I have been of some help.
