WD Red Pro vs WD Se

I've had my 4 Se's for a year now in my DS412+. They've been working pretty well. But recently WD released the Red Pro and I was surprised it costs more than even the Re. I've been wanting to switch to the Red Pro because it doesn't have the "must be used in a 30 degrees ambient temperature" that the Se has. So I'd like to ask if it's worth it and if I'd be sacrificing any performance moving from the Se to the Red Pro?

Might you shorten the total lifespan of the disks at greater than 30C, possibly. Does this give WD a reason to not honor a warranty ABSOLUTELY. If the smart data from the disks is clean, you have sufficient space, and the ambient is under 37C (100F) I wouldn't worry about it. My Synology NAS units sit in a closet, that I keep the door cracked on to allow a little air flow, but I don't obsess about the temps.

I keep mine in a small cabinet that I modified with a pair of 140mm fans. One in the bottom blowing air in and one at the back blowing out. On a good day the temp inside is about 28C, but this Summer it gets to about 30-33C. There's no question about WD's customer service though. I just returned a dead 2.5 Black drive that I had for nearly a year to them this past week and got a replacement just yesterday.

I couldn't find any user feedback about the Red Pro yet, so I just might stick with my Se's for a while.
