Hey all,

Looking to build a new system for the first time in years and want to make sure i'm not missing anything simple on the setup.

CPU: i7 5930k
Motherboard: GA-X99-Gaming5 or Asrock Extreme6 (or something in that price point)
CPU Cooler: Corsair h100i
Case: Thermaltake Level 10 GT Snow
Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4-2400
GPU1: XFX 295x2 (Already owned)
GPU2: Gigabyte 295x2 (Already owned)
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250gb (placeholder till NVMe disks are out)
Power Supply: LEPA 1375W 80+ Platinum Certified
OS: Windows 8.1
Monitor: Samsung U28D590D (4k)

I think i'm solid in the power requirements as the Lepa has 4 rails that will output 30a (the 295x2 requires 28a per rail @ 4 rails total), in addition to the other 12v rails. From what i can tell, the Thermaltake case will take the h100 radiatior/fan on the top mounting bracket, while i can mount the AIO coolers for the Radeons in the rear and bottom exhaust. The rest of the fans would cool the other components in the case. I might do some overclocking on the CPU but nothing too crazy. I'm stuck on an x99 platform as i need the 16x16 full PCIe lanes for the quadfire setup, and the 5930k is the cheapest chip with that many lanes. Later on, i want to add a 4x PCIe SSD (maybe an Intel P3500 or P3600 SSD). Anyone see any holes in the setup? Feedback is appreciated.

Also, i have an old Soundblaster xfi card in my old rig. Do people still bother with discrete soundcards anymore? Or does the motherboard builtins have pretty much the same value?

What's your budget and primary use? Are you going X99 or are you going Z97? Either way there's a few things I would suggest:

1. I'm not a fan of the Thermaltake Level 10 - it's a very overrated and expensive case and there's cheaper and better ones you could go with.

2. There's also better PSUs on the market you could go with - the EVGA P2s are the best on the market.

3. Get an NZXT Kraken x61 over the Corsair H100i - far better CLL cooler.

The budget is kinda open, which is a horrible answer. I'd love to keep the entire total (including what i've already spent) in the 4.5k range. Primary use is 4k gaming. I'm going x99 as i need the two 16x PCIe lanes (32x total) without the PLX switching, which i can't get outside of the enthusiast branding.

1. On the case, yeah i agree it's overpriced but i've "case fatigue" and want something that looks different from every other square box i've owned. The only hard requirement i had on the case was it had to be able to support the three AIO coolers. Beyond that, i'm just looking for something that looks a little more contemporary (assuming it's not excessively expensive).

2. I'll have to look at EVGA's. Because it's a 295x2 quadfire, the power requirements are a little insane. 100a on a single rail or 28a x 4 rails, plus whatever else the system uses (this is what AMD is asking for, not what is probably actually required). I think that pushes me out of the P2's range and firmly in the 1300w+ territory, which i guess is their G2 line? I'll have to look at those, though.

3. that NZXT looks nice, though it is a larger radiator (280mm vs the 240mm the H100 uses). if i can find a better case then the thermaltake, that'd be a worthwhile upgrade.

Thanks for the advice! I'm off to do more research again.
