Hello everyone,
a few months back I built a gaming PC and have had no problems with running games like Skyrim, Bioshock Inifinite, etc. on ultra settings. That is until recently.. Now when i go to play games such as these my video quality is lowered to low settings and the gameplay becomes very choppy. My PC appears to be running fine so I'm not quite sure where to begin resolving the problem.
Parts:
CPU: Intel Core i5-4570 3.2GHz Quad-Core
Video: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 760 4GB WINDFORCE
OS: Microsoft Windows 8.1
Memory: Kingston Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600
On a side note, this all began yesterday and I did install an update (or a driver?) from Geforce yesterday as well.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Depending on what version of Windows 8.1 you have (either x32 or x64) you'll need one of these two Drivers:

Windows 32-bit: http://www.nvidia.co.uk/download/driverResults.aspx/77236/en-uk
Windows 64-bit: http://www.nvidia.co.uk/download/driverResults.aspx/77254/en-uk

To uninstall your old Drivers first go to:

Control Panel > System > Device Manager > Display Adapters > Right-Click your Graphics Card and select 'Properties' > Click ' Drivers' Tab > Select 'Uninstall'.

Reboot and install your new Drivers. Hopefully that will fix the situation.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the problem is still here. This must mean the drivers are not causing the problem. My games are still auto detecting and setting my graphics to low quality and the gameplay is still choppy. There are no signs of damage to the graphics card and device manager says it's running properly.

So I tried accessing the NVIDIA control panel and this is what appears:
NVIDIA settings are not available. You are not currently using a display attached to an NVIDIA GPU.

However, this can't be true because I have an HDMI cable running from the GPU to my TV.

You are probably running off the cpu's built in gpu the hd 4600.

Uninstall all gpu drivers, go into bios disable the built in and enable the video primary device to pcie/peg.

You should be able to install the drivers for the gtx after that.
