I have a Dell, Windows 8 laptop, and satellite internet providers , but can't connect to the Ethernet. There is a PC that uses the same cable, and I have a sibling that has a laptop as well. The cable will only work for his laptop, and the PC but not mine. Recently, a friend told me that "his laptop blocks my IP from using the cable". I'm very unsure what to do, as I need this laptop for course work over the year, but can only get a connection in town, or the campus I go to. I'm kind of desperate...please help.

Solution
rn if the laptop has wifi and an ethernet port and there both on sometimes they can cause issues. try turning off or disabling wifi. see if the ethernet port will connect. on the pc that work look under network settings see if they have fix ip and dns server info or the check box to let windows find the ip and dns servers are on. if there on check to see if your dns or ip info is fixed or can look. the last is if the isp only lets one ip per account. email or speak with the isp help. if it one ip per account then you have to use a router and have the router clone the working pc ip info.
