Hey all, so i've had a extra 7870 laying around for awhile and i finally thought id put it to use by buying a new motherboard and PSU that can handle the crossfire.

My current setup is a
asus M5A97 LE R2.0
and a 600w thermaltake PSU (tier 5 psu i know, but i was on a budget at the time)

now my question is.. when i upgrade the motherboard will i have to completely re-install Windows 7 home premium? or just re-submit my product Code and bind it to the new motherboard.
Id rather not lose all my programs/games/files ect..

Also i have a FX 6300 CPU (oc to 4.3ghz)
will this bottleneck the setup at all or should i be good with that, and what kind of increase in FPS do you think ill get in games? thanks for your help!

Chances are good, Win will set itself up to the new mobo, will want to then load all the latest drivers for new mobo, next run a good registry cleaner (Wise has a free version of theirs that works well), then more than likely Win will want to be re-activated (no big deal)

Depends on what MB you upgrade too. Usually drivers and other things conflict and won't let a new motherboard boot properly and you'll have to reinstall.

With that said, I went from a M5A97 evo r2.0 to asus m5a99x evo r2.0 and it booted fine. Didn't have to do a thing. That's rare though, usually a reinstall is warranted but I think the boards are very similar besides the 970 to 99x chipset.

A 9590 is sort of a waste, calls for a 1,000 PSU, and it's basically just an OCed 8350...I'd go 8350 and OC it, plus not a lot of mobos that will run the 9590

Your choices for the 9590:

ASRock 990FX Extreme9
Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z
Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0
Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD7
MSI 990FXA-GD80V2

Warning: This power draw of this CPU is almost twice that of the average CPU. Due to this, AMD recommends using at minimum a 1000W power supply. For cooling, AMD recommends using either either closed loop liquid cooling or full system liquid cooling.

oh wow, a 1000W psu.. thats kind of ridiculous... do you think if i'm changing motherboards i should just save up more and make the switch to intel?

right now i could buy the CPU ( 4690k ) and the Motherboard as long as it doesn't exceed $150
And next week i could get the better PSU and setup my crossfire! (: which mobo would you guys recommend? thanks for all the input thus far.

I was looking at that board.. but something came to mind was that its the same as the one i have now.. in terms of PCIE slots.. 1 3.0 16x and 2.0 4x. Any other suggested that will crossfire well?
