I get the "Whoa! Google Chrome Crashed. Restart Now?" comment when I try to access Google Chrome. This is the closest I can get:
When I try to click on Home or Settings, the program becomes responsive.
I have tried the following:
1. Uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome, but a semi-loaded Google Chrome Screen appears. (If you need a screen shot, tell me how to submit/attach one.
2. Creating new profile, but I can't access Settings. Also, when I try the %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\ method, I am faced with a Default and Backup default. When I tried to create a second Backup default, I am told one exists, and then I'm asked if I want to merge the two files. Since one may be corrupt, I wasn't sure what this would do so I stopped until someone can further advise me.
3. Following the method on this site for renaming the shortcut files, but that didn't help. In fact, now I can't access any Google icons even momentarily.
4. I performed a "scannow" under Command Prompt, but the CBS log is no where to be found. (I looked for it, but when I went to the directory windir....cbs.log, it wouldn't give me access. When I looked it up through Windows search, it could not be found.)
5. I tried restoring to an earlier version of Google Chrome, but I was told it no longer existed (through my computer).
6. I ran my Norton virus scan, which corrected all issues.
The only other problem I have with my laptop, an ASUS, is that the camera software shows faces upside down. Nothing I've done corrects the issue. I have to use Windows Live Movie Maker or Picassa to correctly record myself.
If you can't help, it looks like I will have to stay with Mozilla Firefox -- or find something else more reliable!
I have Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1 - 64 bit. I do not know which version of Google Chrome I actually have, since it won't let me access it. Properties shows previous version on 8/28/14.
Any help will be appreciated.
By the way, I cannot access Google Chrome to find its version.
I have two computers connected to a network, but they are not set up to communicate with each other or share folders. However, Google Chrome communicates with both, since I have cloud printing set up.
Update: I was able to get one computer (main desktop) to accept a new installation of Google Chrome. However, I keep getting the same errors on my laptop when I tried to reinstall Google Chrome.
