I've been playing games on a mac for 14 years (most recently via bootcamp with windows 7). It's time for me to make the jump to a pc. I'm trying to decide what direction I should go...do I buy a prebuilt system or build my own? (I've never built a computer, but I'd be interested to try, despite very little knowledge.)

If I go prebuilt, what company do I purchase from and what budget should I be looking at?

Ditto if I build my own.

I'd like to be able to max out settings with high fps during pvp/raids/dungeons in mmo's (my games of choice and I mostly pvp)? I'm not very knowledgeable about pc's and while my guy is, he is a mac-head and can't/won't help me with this. I have a cap of about $1600 not including monitor, keyboard, etc. but could spend less as long as I get a quality system that gives me the performance I want.

So, now, I bow to you all and hope you'll help me with my questions.

Thank you! :)

Prebuilt systems are not worth the price. Custom made PC is better bang for the buck. Here's a great one.

Thank you so much for taking the time to put that list together for me. That looks pretty powerful. Is 1600 overkill for what I'd like to do or does that seem like a reasonable budget?

I was just warned away from buying my case separately from the motherboard. Why would I want to buy them already connected?

It's very reasonable budget. Also be sure to select best answer.
