So I recently build my personal rig and went with a kingston ssd for the boot drive and then a wd blue 1 TB for mass storage. When i began putting things onto the WD drive, i got this annoyingly loud noise. I was wondering if this is common or if I have a bad drive. I previously had a seagate drive and that worked fine. sorry for the poor quality of the video, but you should get the point. It sounds like a lawnmower.

I'm having exactly the same issue. New build PC with Kingston SSD for boot drive and a WD Blue for mass storage. The HDD is super loud, like, I can hear it through my headset :/ ended up just unplugging it to get rid of the noise

Hey ColonelCrumpet,

I am sorry that the WD Blue caused you frustration. Though, there may be different reasons for that such as: the drive is not fastened well, some other component is touching the drive, there are some other loose components that start making noises as the drive spins up.
Otherwise, I you are sure that the drive itself is the issue, you can check it out with the DLG tool that already posted. There may be some issue with the drive.

Cheers,

The drive is secured using tool less mounting, and I put in an extra screw to make sure it wasn't going anywhere. I have a feeling that the drive is vibrating off the drive cage and the case is just amplifying the sound, since it is in direct contact with the drive cage. The mounting system doesn't include drive brackets or anything
