I have a TP-Link TL-WDR4300 and a Linksys WRT54G V2 running DD-wrt v24-sp2 (08/12/10) mini. I followed this guide to turn it into a repeater. Click here for guide! and when I initially did it (at around step 6) under Virtual Interfaces Section it says the SSID has to be different from the main router, but in some cases does work so I tried it, and it didn't work. I changed the SSID to something different then the first router and it works. I also tried not using a virtual interface and it didnt work either.

Basically the problem is how to I get the repeater to work while having the same SSID, as only then will the iPhone switch between them automatically.

You can setup multiple networks on your phones, tablets and laptops, so when they roam about, they switch when the signal becomes unusable.....most devices won't switch until the signal is unusable - so in some cases, you may need to manually switch them.

Using the same SSID will also increase difficulty in troubleshooting the problems with coverage - as you won't know which router it is connecting to....

Yeah, I've read that apples airport express does it well but It's not that drastic of a problem for me to go out and buy something new just for it, I get connection out there but it basically lingers on 1/2 bars and drops a bit. I'll live with the two SSID's, thanks guys ^^
