I need a HDD for Dxtory which has a high enough write speed so it can record 1080p 30fps.

I have £30 to £60!
Thanks!

I would look to a 7200RPM drive minimum - I utilize the WD Black Drives (1TB - 4TB) for most of my data drives, as they are very reliable, high performers and have a 5 year warranty.....It may be pushing your budget slightly.....they run about $90-$100 most of the time in the USA.

I use my old 500gb wd blue fine with 1080p/60. Dxtory is inefficient, although the issue is the codec you're using. But I'd suggest using a better recorder like obs which puts less strain on the cpu. I use msi ab myself as I see no point in installing other software when this already has a good recorder. It even supports quicksync.

The blue drives are for simple consumer based drives - they work well, I have used them in many desktop units. The difference between that drive and the black drives (other than about 30-40% price increase) is the amount of cache for the drive, about a 10-15% performance differential and a 3 year warranty vs. 5 year warranty.

Hey there, Eddie!

Let me sum up what the community suggested:
WD Black - gaming and performance: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=760
WD Blue - everyday computing: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=800

Both of the (1TB) drives have 7 200 RPM and 64 MB cache.
The WD Black is definitely faster, especially if you are using demanding apps. You will find it much more suitable for your PC. While WD Blue is more for regular use and very reliable as a storage solution.

Hope this will give you more insight. :)

Your blue link is to laptops and performance isn't that clear cut.

You see on one black, it's lower performance than the blue and the other black is the same performance.
I don't really like passmark but it's the only charts I can find with most hdd models and this shows the same thing. The lower performing black is worse and the other black and blue are similar performance.

What about this one, I only need about 500GB because I was only gonna use it for Dxtory files.

Black isn't necessarily better. I even gave an example showing a blue outperforming. With the same specs, the extra cost is really just the warranty. But go with a 1tb, larger drives are typically better performance as they use denser platters.
