Hey TH
I am building a PC for my dad. He does a lot of office work and needs something that can handle a lot of slightly demanding tasks very vell (Which is why i will be using a 8 core fx). He wants a futureproofed device with 8gb of ram and a ittle bit of SSD storage (he has a 2tb backup drive). He plays some (but not lots) of video games, so the video card doesnt have to be great (anything above an r7 250x is overkill). Most games he DOES run can be easily handled by the integrated mobo graphics anyway, only reason there is a dedicated video card in this box at all is solely because he needs the HDMI output (plus, I have learned that computers tend to do certain basic tasks faster vith a video card even if they arnt game/3d related)

Here are my 2 ideas.

Build #1:
8 cores, decent CPU cooler, crap video card, 8gb ram, wifi, ssd
650$
Build #2
6 cores (im going to overclock these to 3.9ghz stock), mid/low level decent video card, 8gb ram, wifi, ssd
650$

Which one should I go with? should I make any changes? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

NOTE: If you do want to make changes to the build, please keep the budget under 670$ (around 650$ would be ideal). My original budget was 650$ and i want to keep it as close as possible to the budget. thx

I'd start the baseline by saying Build #2 is my preference (Giving others room to customize it).. If you want a truly budget build & some overclocking I'd look into the G3258. It's a dual core but you get great overclocking, much more cheaper than a 6300 or 8350 & you can shift the extra saved cash to something else like extra storage.

Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard < Not a good board for the 8350.

Are you sure a dual core will be able to do all the tasks he wants?

Thanks for the heads up. What makes it so bad?

Has a poor power and thermal design.

I'd look into a G3258 for an office use pc.

If my A6 can handle chrome with multiple tabs open, multiple windows open , and CS6 open, I can imagine the G3258 would hold up just fine for multitasking. Plus you could always upgrade it later on to an i3/ i5/ i7 if it ever comes to that, or just start with an i3 base.
