I've gone through different temp monitoring softwares already and all have weird reads on my 7850k. HWMonitor and HWiNFO have the same "cpu package" temps, HWiNFO "CPU 0" reading is the similar to Speedfan's Temp3 readings along with HWMonitor's TMPIN2. HWiNFO's "CPU" reading is similar to Speedfan's Core reading.

I use prime95 for load testing and I've reached around 77C with the CPU Package readings on HWMonitor and HWiNFO but Temp3, TMPIN2, and "CPU 0" on the 3 softwares reached a max of 40C. The 77C reads seem realistic but when I touch the heatpipes and even the top part of the metal that makes contact with the CPU it's not hot at all. Slightly warm but not 40C warm. My room temps are probably 25C-26C at night and maybe reaches ~30C during the day if it is not raining.

Idle temps for cpu package is 46C lowest, for the other 3 readings they can reach 12C. 12C is lower than what I guess my room temp is.
I am not sure which reading I should trust. I don't know why but this was the same case back when I had a 5800k with an H60 AIO.

Which of the readings should I trust? And which is a better to look at, the package temps or core temps?

I monitor my temps with AMD Overdrive. It shows you thermal margin instead of an actual temperature, but it's the most accurate temp monitor out there.
You can read about thermal margin here on forum.

^^This is the software I'v forgotten the name of when I posted.

I do use AMD Overdrive and at idle it bounces around 60C-70C and on load with prime95 41C-50C. Those are pretty big thermal margins and that means my 7850k is far from overheating. But I would really like to know the exact temps of the cpu. Unless there's a way to determine the true temperature based on the thermal margin? From what I've read it could be core temp = (7850k max operating temp) - (current thermal margin)?

Also Thermal Margin readings never go past 70C on idle. This site I found says that the max operating temp of the 7850k is 72.4C(http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Bulldozer/AMD-A10-Series%20A10-7850K.html). So does that mean my cpu's core temp is around 2.4C on idle?
