Hi, so recently with all the swatting going on with people that stream to twitch, I am looking for a VPN router that will keep me protected while being able to stream well to twitch while running some other things using internet as well, my internet is 75 down and 35 up, so I was wondering if there is anything that would be good for this type of thing for around the price range of $500.
Thanks

You could simply run a VPN program which would hide your IP itself. I don't notice much change at all with the service i have.
Download: 87mb/s With VPN: 81mb/s
Upload: 9.9mb/s With VPN: 9.7mb/s
(Just took tests now)

It honestly isn't a point in dropping 500$ on a piece of hardware when you can find a solution for like maybe under 15$/mo. I don't recommend the free ones as they are slow.

I personally use BTGUARD, which is amazing and speeds are good. I think it's like 8$/mo. Hidemyass is also good i've heard but it gets laggy when there is alot of traffic at peak hours.

Whichever way you choose, good luck :)

The thing is I want it to work for more than just my computer, I want it to work for things such as my console while streaming as well

And I was wondering if you are a streamer? Because I want it not to get all laggy with streaming because that happens to me when I have used others such as hmy

You can use many VPN routers to solve your problem. For $500 you can get commercial sonicwall, fortigate or even small juniper SRX.

Sill a cheaper consumer router that supports vpn...or you load dd-wrt on will likely perform just as well. Most vpn issues are related to number of open sessions not so much how much traffic you are passing.

The device you buy is not really the main factor in the quality of the VPN connection you get. This is mostly dependent on the location you are buying your service from. They have to have very good connectivity to various ISP and not over sell their capacity to the point they are dropping data. Pretty much you are just going to have to test a bunch but in general you get what you pay for.

Still a IP address will not get your physical location. There has to be much more to this than somehow they got your IP and can find enough information to call the police. It not like they call up and tell the police your IP address and the police track the house down. I suspect they obtained this information by the person streaming giving out too much personal information.

Twitch does not expose your IP all the feed will appear to other users to be coming from twitch servers. In most cases where the IP are being exposed is streaming using Skype. Skype has a well known flaw that can be used to expose your IP address.

Still just getting a IP means very little. I can do denial of service attacks but other than some general city that is about the closest I can tell and most streamers already tell people generally where they live.
