So I was shopping around for a $1k pc and I decided id spend a bit more and build my own for future proofing and the experience. I will not be gaming hardcore at all and no overclocking.

Will be mainly used for photo and video editing as well as 3d modeling software like Solidworks.
I will game but thats not my purpose of the build.

and I already have a 256 Crucial SSD at home as well as the OS

The Xeon is better for 3D rendering while also good for gaming. You're gonna need RAM that is as fast as possible for 3D rendering so I got 8GB of 2400mhz RAM. This is the best I could do at this budget although I highly recommend looking around Ebay or amazon for better deals.

^ The i7 is actually better for rendering, the xeon is just a budget i7,I would not compromise on the speed of RAM to get half as much GB, even 16 1600mhz will be faster than 8gb 2400mhz

I was thinking more of the $200 xeons, since you said you could only fit in 8gb of ram for the remaining budget, a i7 will be better, hyperthreading will be useful and saves $40-$50 which can buy a lot in RAM

Yeah no bro your build is fine its great even you will have no problems with that although I do recommend that you switch out to a Xeon as they are better for 3D rendering. If you want to verify just do a little googleing and stuff :)

Do not get the xeon because xeons are made for servers that are meant to run 24/7. Get an i7 because you can overclock the 4790k and also you have hyperthreading which will help a lot for 3d renduring.
